We were looking for a set of coilovers with adjustable dampers and adjustable hight options without having to spend an arm and a leg. The
BC Racing BR coilovers were exactly what we needed. They have have adjustable hight, adjustable dampers, and can also be rebuilt if ever needed. You can look to spend a lot more for other coilovers with similar options. Also, though our goal is better performance, these also look great and the gold kinda matches our gold
Enkei RPF1's. Our friends at
Texas Track Works did the install, alignment, and fender roll.

These have 30 point adjustable dampers so you'll be able to adjust the stiffness of your ride. Spencer set these about half way for the time being. We'll make adjustments after we run them for a couple of hundred miles and they settle in.

We're not planning on going too low as we want to get the maximum performance out of our Miata. Also, since it will be street driven, we want to be able to get over those dreaded speed bumps. We will shoot to have the rear fender right above the Toyo R888 tires, perhaps a bit lower. Spring rates are 560lb 450lb 10kgmm 8kgmm.

The previous owner of this Miata had installed AGX adjustable shocks with a unknown brand set of 1" lowering springs.

It was time for these to come off. The AGX set up was actually in pretty good shape so we were able to sell them on eBay without a problem. eBay is a good place to make some of your money back when upgrading parts, specially when you're on a tight budget.

The BC Racing coilovers are designed for OEM like fit so the guys at Texas Track Works had no problem installing them.

Andrew took care of the fronts, and Spencer the rears.

Once the coilovers were installed, as well as all the Whiteline parts (install post coming soon), it was time to adjust the hight of the car.

The BC Racing Coilovers come with these handy wrenches made specifically for ride height adjusting - they are helpful to get your car at the exact height you're looking for. As long as you know how to use a tape measure, you should be able to adjust these yourself as you see fit.

After a few adjustments, we were ready for an alignment.

Fortunately, Texas Track Works has the right tools for a professional and accurate alignment. Andrew got us all aligned. It's a time saver to have you're work done by a shop with everything you need to get you on the road at 100%.

We thought we were finished but noticed the fenders were rubbing. A fender roll would be needed to safely drive the car without taring up both the fenders and the Toyo's. Kyle whipped out his fender roller and took care of all four corners (that's what she said).

Here is a before and after as far as ride height... before shot above and after shots below.

We went about an additional inch lower on all four sides. After driving it around, we really like this height but there's always that temptation to go lower. Maybe. I drove the car around the city and the ride quality is better than I expected.

The front is a bit lower and tucks in a little and give it a good aggressive look.

Perhaps we'll lower the rear to do the same. What do you think? The truth is, there are several budget friendly coilover options available but it's smart to go with brands who test their products on the track. For example, BC Racing coilovers are used by
Formula Drift driver
Chelsea DeNofa, Walker Wilkerson, and of course 2012 champion
Daigo Saito to name a few. There's a lot on the line for these professional drivers. Most wouldn't take the chance of running low quality parts on their cars (even if you paid them). Do your own research, but keep that in mind when considering upgrades.
Texas Track Works also installed Whiteline front and rear swaybars, bushings, and strut tower so stay tuned for that post. -
